An explanation on every question

English, Spanish & Russian

Every question and explanation is fully translated, with the English exam term kept alongside — not a shallow machine translation.

Format and references

PSI's Nevada Candidate Information Bulletin (Updated 3/25/2026) sets the frame: 80 questions, 180 minutes, 56 correct to pass — 70 percent — open book. The permitted references include the 2018 IBC, the 2018 IRC and ACI 318, and for a residential exam the IRC is the workhorse: garage separation, room minimums, joist notching, chimney termination all live there. Study the listed 2018 editions, tab your books before exam day, and remember the CMS — Nevada's business-and-law exam — is also required for every applicant; LICENA covers it in a separate course.

What the subject areas actually test

The outline reads like a house being built: Carpentry 12 items, then Masonry, Concrete, Safety and General Code / Plan Reading and Estimating at 10 each, Thermal and Moisture Protection 9, Metals 5, Sitework 4, Drywall and Finishes 4, Doors and Windows 3, Nevada One Call 3. In IRC terms that means the garage-to-house separation (R302.5.1), light and ventilation percentages (R303.1), ceiling heights (R305.1), joist cutting limits (R502.8.1) and the 3-2-10 chimney rule (R1003.9) — plus OSHA 1926's residential fall-protection and ladder rules, and the NRS 455 one-call tolerance zone.

B-2 versus B — pick the right exam

B-2 sits under Nevada's B family and trades commercial depth for residential breadth: against the B General Building outline it carries more Masonry (10 vs 6), Carpentry (12 vs 7) and Safety (10 vs 5), less Concrete, Metals and Sitework — and adds the IRC to the reference shelf. The scope boundary is the same as every general classification: plumbing, electrical, HVAC and fire protection are specialty licenses, so the exam touches them only from the coordination angle — sequencing, protecting framing other trades cut into, rough-in before cover.

A realistic study plan

The full LICENA course is 500 questions in five blocks that follow the outline's own areas, every answer explained with its IRC, NRS or 1926 citation. At 30 questions a day that is under three weeks: one pass to find what you do not know, a second on the blocks you missed, then the timed final that mirrors the real 80-question, 180-minute, 70-percent format. Because the exam is open book, the skill is navigation — knowing that garage doors live in R302.5.1, notching in R502.8.1, chimney height in R1003.9 — and drilling explained questions builds that map faster than rereading the code.
