The B General Building trade exam is PSI's test for Nevada's general building contractor license. It is open book: 80 questions in 180 minutes with a 56-of-80 — 70 percent — pass bar, and the references allowed in the center are the 2018 International Building Code and the listed ACI standards, with a silent calculator permitted. PSI's Nevada Candidate Information Bulletin (Updated 3/25/2026) sets the frame: 80 questions, 180 minutes, 56 correct to pass — 70 percent — open book. The reference shelf is the 2018 International Building Code plus the ACI concrete and masonry standards the bulletin lists, and a silent hand-held calculator is allowed. Tab and highlight your books before exam day, and study the listed editions: code questions test the 2018 IBC, not the newest cycle. The B classification also requires the CMS — Nevada's business-and-law exam — which LICENA covers in a separate course.
Three areas carry 12 items each — Concrete, Metals, and Plan Reading and Estimating — 36 of the 80 questions between them. Around them: Thermal and Moisture Protection 9, Carpentry 7, Sitework 6, Masonry 6, Safety 5, Doors and Windows 4, Drywall and Finishes 4, and Nevada One Call 3. In IBC terms that means footing depth (1809.4), the concrete and steel chapters, crickets behind wide chimneys (1503.5), decay protection over crawl-space ground (2304.12), and the weather-protection gate before gypsum goes up (2508.2.1) — plus OSHA 1926's fall-protection and scaffold thresholds, and the NRS 455 one-call windows.
Nevada's B license is the prime-contractor classification: buildings built with two or more unrelated trades under one coordinator. Plumbing, electrical, HVAC and fire protection are excluded — those trades need their own specialty licenses — so where they appear in questions at all, it is from the general contractor's angle: sequencing, protecting work in place, rough-in inspections before cover. Nevada One Call has three dedicated items: notice to USA North 811 at least 2 working days but not more than 28 calendar days before digging, and the marking and tolerance rules that follow.
