Why LICENA

Built to make the material make sense

An explanation on every question

Every question tells you why the correct answer is correct and defines the terms it uses — so you learn the rule, not just the answer.

Based on official sources

Questions are written from scratch against the official codes and agency publications for this exam — never copied from the real exam.

English, Spanish & Russian

Every question and explanation is fully translated, with the English exam term kept alongside — not a shallow machine translation.

Honest by design

LICENA is a practice tool, not a school. We don't promise a pass — we help you understand the material and walk in prepared.

The real exam at a glance

What's on the Arizona R-37R

An IPC exam — check which book you study

PSI's R-37R content outline (rev. 6/8/23) sets the format — 100 questions, 240 minutes, 70 percent, open book — and its reference list names the 2018 INTERNATIONAL Plumbing Code and the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code. That first word matters: several states test the Uniform Plumbing Code instead, and the two books number everything differently. Study to the exam's own list, tab your books before test day (writing in them is not allowed), and remember code questions are based on the listed 2018 editions, not the newest ones.

The rules the questions come from

Residential plumbing exams live on the DWV-and-supply spine: trap seals of 2 to 4 inches, drainage slope by pipe size from Table 704.1, cleanouts at 100-foot intervals and at the building drain's junction, venting with its roof-termination and frost rules, water-service sizing with its 3/4-inch floor, water heaters with their T&P relief valves discharging through an air gap in the same room, and backflow protection at every cross-connection. The IFGC adds gas pipe sizing, the appliance shutoff valve in the same room within 6 feet, testing and purging, and appliance venting. Expect applied questions — a size, a distance, a slope — more than definitions.

Residential scope — and the jobsite around it

R-37R covers residential plumbing; commercial work requires C-37 or the dual CR-37. Around the pipe itself the exam reaches the jobsite: OSHA's Subpart P excavation rules (protective systems at 5 feet, spoils back 2 feet, egress within 25 feet of lateral travel), and the septic basics EPA publishes — how tanks and drainfields work. Every Arizona license also requires the SRE, AZ ROC's separate open-book law exam; budget for both preparations.

A realistic study plan

The full LICENA course is 500 questions in five blocks, every answer explained with its IPC or IFGC citation. At 30 questions a day that is under three weeks: a first pass to find what you do not know, a second on the weak blocks, then the timed final mirroring the real 100-question, 240-minute format. Open book rewards navigation — knowing that traps live in Chapter 10, slope in Table 704.1, relief valves in 504 — and drilling builds that map faster than rereading chapters. Pair the bank with the Arizona SRE practice (also required) and our guide to Arizona's contractor exams.
